Author Advice - Becoming ‘Conventionally Published’ 2

There are two straightforward ways to be ‘conventionally published’:-

  • Self-Publishing where you take all of the risks but also all of the Profits, or Losses.
  • Convincing a conventional publisher that they should take you on as an Author.
Self-Publishing is Easy

You could probably get away with a budget of £10,000.00 to turn your book into a conventionally published format along with some marketing to try and turn your stock into sales.
Successful Self-Publishing is something much rarer, most Self-Publishers simply end up with a stack of unsaleable books cluttering up their garage.
There are lots of conventionally published guides to Self-Publishing, definitely read them before committing yourself and your financial resources.

Convincing a Conventional Publisher.

This might be your easiest option as by being published in an Instant-Books Edition you have overcome most of the barriers that conventional publishers put in the way of new Authors.
Publishers can look at your published work, judge its style and content; and might even take a decision based on your Instant-Books Edition.
Publishers fall over themselves to pursue a Successful Published Author.
Just show them your Instant-Books Royalty Statements to show them how well the digital version of your work is selling. Is that a problem?
Did you follow our encouragement and advice on how to make your Instant-Books Edition as good as it could be?
Did you put enough effort into promoting your Instant-Books Edition?
Better that you hear this now because your best chance of being a ‘conventionally published Author’ is if you are a successful Instant-Books Author.

Be Wary of Cancelling your Instant-Books Publishing Agreement.

Many conventional publishers will probably see Instant-Books as competition; mainly because they see any other form of your work as reducing their conventional sales. Be very wary of publishers who use this argument. Instant-Books Editions will add to your conventional sales because people have found your book through Instant-Books, and if they had the chance they would probably buy a conventional printed book even at the higher price. If you take away your Instant-Books market exposure you might find sales of your conventionally published book go down rather than up. Decide carefully before abandoning us, who got you published, at Instant-Books.
