Becoming Conventionally Published 1

Instant-Books probably wasn’t your first choice of publisher when you were looking to get your book out to the book buying public. Even though we’ve backed your ideas by saying YES to publishing your book as an Instant-Books Edition. Even though we are paying you the highest royalty rates in publishing, you’d probably prefer to be getting 5% from a conventional publisher. Even though we’ve made your Instant-Books Edition available World-wide, you’d probably swap that for seeing your book in a local book shop.

Don’t worry that you think this way. We would in your position. We could debate the advantages of Instant-Books with you for days on end, but we know that in your heart you want to be a conventionally published author; even if your Instant-Books Edition is a Best Seller you’ll still have this ‘traditionalist’ desire.

At Discovery Walking Guides Ltd we have the opposite problem in that our ‘conventionally published’ Authors are a ‘bit wary’ of Instant-Books; not Ros and myself of course because I’ll sell a lot more of my digital maps and pocket 40% Royalty ‘thank you very much’, plus we will sell a lot of DWG titles to people for whom the postal system is too slow or not viable.

Becoming ‘Conventionally Published’

Instant-Books has already given you the ‘biggest leg up’ you’re ever going to receive in becoming a ‘conventionally published author’; we’ve done this by:-

  • Encouraging you into good writing, positive editing and turning criticism into a positive tool with which to improve the quality of your book.
  • Encouraging you into good book design, and cover design; attributes not found in many writers.
  • Publishing your book as an Instant-Books Edition.
  • Encouraging you to positively promote your Instant-Books Edition.

That’s a very steep learning curve that you’ve been through, with all of that learning being valuable to a conventional publisher thinking of taking you on as an Author.
